Atlas V rocket launched from Cape Canaveral

The most powerful variant of an Atlas V rocket shot off its Cape Canaveral pad like a laser beam early Tuesday, taking several payloads on a mission overseen by the Space Force. The joint strike force of an RD-180 main engine and five solid rocket boosters generated more than two million pounds of thrust at 5:19 a.m., pushing Atlas past the lightning suppression towers at Launch Complex 41 faster than other rockets in its class.

NEWTON - Phyllis V. “Vel” Swarts 80, died December 2, 2021 at Paramount Health and Rehab in Newton. She was born March 29, 1941 in Florence, Kansas to Ira R. and Margaret L. (Collins) Kelsheimer. She attended Florence Schools and was retired as a cafeteria food service worker at the St. Mary School Cafeteria where she cared for many children through the years.
