This week’s suggestions include celebrating Arbor Day, watching a new movie like “The Five-Year Engagement” and more.

1. Friday is Arbor Day, a day when people are encouraged to plant and care for trees. Some places give away trees for free today, so check around. Or you can do to the day’s official website, http://www.arborday.org/, and if you join, you will receive 10 free trees.

2. The new movies opening in wide release this week are “The Five-Year Engagement,” R, starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt; “The Raven,” an R thriller starring John Cusack; “The Pirates! Band of Misfits,” an animated PG film; and “Safe,” R, starring Jason Statham.

3. Saturday is National Go Birding Day, so hopefully the weather will cooperate and you and your family can get outdoors and see some of our feathered friends. People also are encouraged to put up bird feeders and bird houses, or simply take some time to learn what birds live in your area.

4. Sunday is the first anniversary of royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. There is a plethora of coverage online so you can relive the moment.

5. Finally, don’t forget about sports action – the NBA playoffs begin Saturday, and the NHL playoffs are taking place as well. There also are baseball and soccer games all weekend. Check out your favorite league’s website for schedule information and more.
