Harvey County sheriff’s deputies arrested two burglary suspects after a manhunt Monday morning.
A neighbor noticed two men taking items at 8 a.m. Monday from a house in the 6400 block of Southwest Road, Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton said.The neighbor yelled at the men, and the men took off running, Walton said.No one was home at the time of the burglary attempt.The neighbor called 911.After about an hour and a half, Newton Police Department Corporal Jason Thompson and his canine unit helped deputies track the men to a bridge near Southwest 72nd Street and Hoover Road.A 21-year-old man and a 31-year-old man were taken into custody. No one was injured. The names of the men were released as the men were being held without bond at Harvey County Detention Center while they waited to be formally charged. Both suspects are from Newton.All the items stolen were recovered. Weapons were recovered from the suspects’ truck, but no weapons were found on the suspects at the time of arrest, Walton said.The value of the items was not released.The Newton and Halstead police departments assisted the sheriff’s department on the case.NEWTON —
