Question: It’s open forum week. What’s on your mind?
• Let’s see, they are offering some money to bring new people to Newton, and $1,000 is from us taxpayers. It was decided by our city commissioners, which I think is wrong! Our water bill is going up! Our gas is going up! Our electric bill is going up, and our cable has definitely went up! Probably our telephone will be going up! And the taxes on our real estate is sky high. So it is interesting to see how many people you can get to come to Newton with all this other stuff that is sky high. Good luck!
• I agree with the person that called in about the red awnings at the depot. This has been there for several years, green and molding red awnings. Let’s clean this town up before we try to welcome new people to Newton.
• Someone told me the pool admission would be $10 to swim if you don’t have a membership at the YMCA. A lot of people won’t be able to afford a membership. I hope they take that into consideration.
Editor’s note: Ten dollars is the day fee, which allows the person to use all amenities at the facility.
