NEWTON —

• In responding to the caller who wanted the extra-curricular activities, like band, orchestra and music cut. I would tell them my daughter has always had to purchase her equipment and has always had to be taken personally by car. Leave those type of activities alone. It actually teaches the child something.

• I was wondering, now that now the Sand Creek is finished, is the city going to restock the creek so we can go fishing?

• You would quit complaining about train whistles if you lived in the flight pattern of Boeing’s big ones! Your dishes rattle in the cupboard. If you are in a conversation, you stop and wait till you can hear. And phone conversations always stop. Those bombers can be loud! This is in a nice part of town with pricey real estate!

• ...and Newton doesn’t have a parking garage because? We have the space for it!

• Kidney for sale. Have to pay water bill this month. 555-1234.

• I agree about the upsets to pets and people, and wish the city of Newton would rethink its policy of allowing fireworks for so many days. The only benefits are to those selling the fireworks.

• There’s all kinds of space above the buildings downtown. Could a second story be added to the library, for example?

• If I am traveling at 75 mph in the left lane passing a driver going 65 in a 60 mph zone, and I’'m still being tailgated by someone wanting to go 85, do I have to speed up or does he get a ticket for aggressive driving (and speeding)? It’s happened to me many times in Wichita.
