Newton, KS —

New question:

It’s open forum week. What’s on your mind?

• I think it would be a good idea to televise our city and county commission meetings.

• This week I had to pick up my grandkids at Sunset Elementary School, and I was amazed how many people park on Boyd to pick their kids up. Why don’t they use that back parking lot where the grass is and extend that parking lot out so people can have places to park without having to park right there where the fire department is? If there was an emergency, I don’t know if the fire trucks could get out. So maybe let’s take that grass there and extend that parking lot so people can park to pick up their kids safely. That is one thing we to be concerned about, the safety of those kids at Sunset school. I can not believe how dangerous that is.

• I want to say thank you for the lovely sign at the corner of Roosevelt Park, at Magnolia and East Broadway streets. That’s very nice, and it’s a lovely marker for the park.

• After reading Jim Davidson’s column in Monday’s Kansan, I believe all our children are at risk — spiritually, morally and physically.

• Regarding the article by Kathryn Lopez, “Barack Obama is ‘certainly audacious,” do we really need her venom in our Newton Kansan?

• Remember when we had people dart across U.S. Highway 50 when Old Main was opened? Well, now we’ve moved it to Anderson. What a dangerous thing for people to dart over the U.S. 50 traffic at Anderson.

• With regard to helmets, if you have a head injury, it hurts. Is it worth the risk? It’s your choice.
