Newton —

• I am excited about the work being done on Sand Creek. Why are they starting at First Street instead of at the other end? Now if it rains, the silt from the unfinished part will cover the new work. If they started at the other end, there would be no silt to spoil the completed work.

• How sad our local health-care sponsored child-care center has raised its rates so high its own employees can no longer keep their children there. Two-hundred dollars a week for an infant and $170 a week for a preschooler is outlandish.

• Isn’t is sad Obama has to distance himself from his pastor just because people say it’s politically incorrect and unpatriotic in this election year? How sad that in order to be a candidate for the presidency, one cannot stand up for one’s belief. The Rev. Wright was right — the United States — and any nation, will be punished when they reject God and his way.

• I’m sure excited about what I’m hearing about the new Sand Creek!
