Question: It’s open forum week. What’s on your mind?
• We want to build up downtown, but we move everything so far out of town anyone not having a car can’t get there. We want to speed up traffic on Main Street and spend money for left turn lanes then lower the speed limit to 20 mph and do not coordinate the lights to go with it! We want people to save on gasoline then close off Old Main at 50 so people have to drive further to get to the south of 50 highway! If the only swimming pool in town is at the “new YMCA,” how many hundreds of people young and old will not be able to use it? Sometimes saying no is not naysaying but common sense.
• Are city crews picking up fallen branches from the recent storm? Those in my neighborhood are still waiting. Do we helpless widows need to make private arrangements to have these taken away?
• I do not see how the new health buildings get by the ADA. The eye clinic (at a local medical facility) building has three heavy glass doors. It is very difficult to maneuver a wheelchair in without an electric opener. A dental clinic ... also has no electric opener, plus it has a high door sill. Holding the door with one hand and trying to get a wheelchair in over the door sill is almost impossible.
• People DO NOT walk your dogs in the heat of the day on that scorching hot pavement. Have you tried putting your bare foot on the hot pavement when it is this hot out? If if burns your foot, think about the pain you are inflicting on your pet as the pads on their feet are much more sensitive than our skin. Walk your dogs early morning or late evening during these hot spells.
