Two years ago, Vincent Hill died, the victim of child abuse. Tuesday one of his tormentors was sentenced in the crime of his death when Chad Carr was sentenced to more than 20 years behind bars on multiple charges stemming from the death.
However, Hills’ father Richard does not want this to be the end of what has turned into a long journey.
“I don’t want there to be more Vincent Hills,” Richard Hill said Tuesday after watching the sentencing of a man who pled guilty to his son’s death. “There has to be something that can be done.”
Richard Hill has started working on a documentary about child abuse, and the tragic life of his son. It’s mostly on paper, with bits and pieces of video shot. It’s a work in progress, and work that is hard to do.
“There needs to be more telling people about this,” Richard Hill said. “You don’t hear about this. It’s in the news; then it’s over. People do not want to talk about this, it’s hard.”
Two adults went to prison for the death of Vincent Hill, with court proceedings taking two years to complete.
And all the while, Richard Hill has watched from his seat in the courtroom, wanting the death of his son to not be in vain.
“There are commercials for animal abuse. I totally agree that people who beat animals, that is wrong. But I think our children are a little more important,” Richard Hill said. “I don’t want Vincent to be a 5:00 news story on one day, and a year from now for everyone to forget. I want his life to mean more. I want him to save other kids.”
