More than 17,000 performers from across the country entered Guitar Center’s recent singer-songwriter contest for a chance to gain national exposure as an artist. Only 10 performers were selected to compete in the finale — and local singer and guitarist Caleb McGinn made the cut.“I was really excited,” said McGinn, who is from Sedgwick. “Definitely there were a lot of entrants into the contest; just being selected from 17,000 people across the nation is pretty cool.”
According to a press release from Guitar Center, the contest is an
“artist discovery program which aims to find the nation’s best unsigned singer-songwriter.”
Jake Cheung, Guitar Center Music and Entertainment Marketing, said this is the contest’s first year, and he said the company was impressed by the caliber of the entries.
“It went very well,” he said. “This is probably the largest number of sign-ups we’ve had on any programs we’ve done.”
