NEWTON —

The Newton High School junior varsity baseball team ended the season with a pair of wins Friday at home against Salina South.

Newton won the first game 13-3 in five innings and the second game 5-4, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to win.

In the first game, Chris Cage went the distance for the win, allowing one earned run on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Baxter Schmidt led Newton at the plate with three hits. Cage, Colton Hege and Josh Scheuermann had two hits each. Scheuermann had a home run. Hege drove in four runs, followed by Cody Opland with three RBIs and Scheuermann with two.

In the second game, Scheuermann went the distance for the win, allowing six hits, three earned runs, a walk and nine strikeouts. Opland and Joey Buchanan each had two hits for Newton. Brandon Palmer drove in two runs.

Newton ends the season 12-7.
