BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox recalled Newton High School grad Dustin Richardson Wednesday from its Class AAA affiliate Pawtucket.
He was sent back to the minors Aug 16. In that time, he pitched in six games for 7 1-3 innings, allowing three hits, no runs, three walks and eight strikeouts. He had a save and two holds.
For the season with Pawtucket, Richardson has played in 32 games, allowing 14 runs (13 earned) on 27 hits with 31 walks and 56 strikeouts. Richardson has pitched in 44 innings with a 2.66 earned-run-average.
With the Red Sox, Richardson has played in 19 games this season for 10 1-3 innings, allowing three runs on 14 hits with five walks and nine strikeouts. He has a 2.61 ERA with two holds.
Entering the final month of the season, Boston is 75-58, eight games out of first place in the AL East and seven games behind Tampa Bay in the AL wild card race.

The Newton High School junior varsity tennis meet scheduled for Tuesday at Arkansas City will be made up today.

The Newton High School boys’ and girls’ freshmen and junior varsity basketball games scheduled for Dec. 6 have been moved to Dec. 13.
The girls’ games will be played at Kapaun. The boys’ games will be played at Newton.

inducted by COE
OVERLAND PARK — Gary Davison of Newton was inducted into the College of Emporia Athletic Hall of Fame July 3 at the college alumni reunion in Overland Park.
Davison is a 1969 graduate of the College of Emporia, which closed in 1974. Davison was the leading scorer of the 1965-66 basketball team which won the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference title, beating St. Benedicts (now Benedictine University) in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 10 semifinals and lost to Pittsburg State in the championship game by a point.
St. Benedicts won the NAIA title the following season.
Davison was an All-KCAC selection as a junior and senior. The Fighting Presbies team also won the 1967 KCAC title. He also played baseball at COE. The year after he graduated, he was named to the all-tournament team of the Topeka AAU Tournament. He served as a student assistant at Pittsburg State under coach Bob Johnson.
Davison was one of 196 athletes honored at the college, which began athletic competition in the 1890s.

fall to Cowley
HESSTON — The Hesston College volleyball team fell to Cowley College in three games Wednesday in Hesston.
The Larks fell to the top-ranked (NJCAA Division II) Tigers 25-12, 25-11, 25-10.
Hesston falls to 0-5 and plays Friday and Saturday at the Vernon (Texas) College Invitational.
