Goessel 48, Little River 0

LITTLE RIVER — The Goessel Bluebirds were flying high Friday night, ending their tilt with Little River early, 48-0 after three quarters of play in Eight-Man I, District 4 play, as well as Heart of America League play in Goessel.

Goessel rushed for 142 yards on just 22 carries while holding Little River to 51 yards on the ground. The Goessel defense only gave up 13 passing yards in the game, while the offense put 94 yards up in the air — despite completing only three of five pass attempts.

Goessel is 6-0 overall, 4-0 in district play. Little River falls to 3-3, 0-3 in district play. Goessel hosts Salina St. John’s Military Friday in non-district play.

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge High School football team has its Heart of America League title hopes dashed with a 14-7 loss to Hutchinson Trinity Friday in Hutchinson.

Tanner Engweiler scored on a three-yard run with 4:01 left in regulation to give Trinity the lead. Engweiler finished with 59 yards rushing on 14 carries.

Derek Racette hit a 20-yard pass to Engweiler in the first quarter.

Moundridge struck back in the fourth quarter, tying on a 60-yard Jake Janzen run.

Racette finished the game with 72 yards passing and 41 rushing.

Moundridge’s Jayson Kaufman had 71 yards rushing, followed by Janzen at 64.

Trinity improves to 4-2, 4-1 in HOAL play. Moundridge falls to 4-2 overall and in HOAL play. The Wildcats open district play Friday at Sterling.

Sedgwick 25, Inman 12

SEDGWICK — Wade Hansen rushed for 236 yards and a touchdown to lead the Sedgwick Cardinals to a 25-12 Heart of America League win over Inman Friday in Sedgwick.

Tanner Giffin rushed for 78 yards and a score, hitting two PAT kicks and a 22-yard field goal. Jake Napper rushed for 38 yards and a score and passed for 97 yards.

Inman’s Jake Friesen passed for 216 yards and a touchdown. Luke Ropp rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown.

Inman falls to 2-4 overall and in HOAL play. Sedgwick improves to 4-2, 2-2 in the league. Sedgwick opens district play Friday at home against Halstead.

Ell-Saline 46, Remington 7

BROOKVILLE — The Ell-Saline Cardinals took a step closer to the HOAL title with a 46-7 win over Remington Friday in Brookville.

Rodolpho Arias had 14 carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals. Tate Omli passed for 126 yards and three scores, also rushing for a touchdown.

Remington was led by Jake Coleman with 138 yards rushing. Zach Gover passed for 134 yards and a score. Remington was hampered by four interceptions.

Ell-Saline is 6-0 overall and in HOAL play. Remington falls to 3-3, 2-3 in the HOAL. Remington opens district play Friday at home against Hutchinson Trinity.

HESSTON — The Hesston Swathers mowed down their competition Friday night, making quick work of Haven 42-7 in Mid-Central Activities Association play.

Hesston never trailed in the game, building a 28-0 lead in the second quarter before their guests were able to get on the scoreboard.

Chad Wollenberg led the Hesston ground attack with 127 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.

Haven falls to 1-5, 0-3 in Central Division play. Hesston is 5-1, 4-1 in division play, and opens Class 4A district play Friday at Topeka Hayden.

Hoisington 28, Hillsboro 21

HILLSBORO — Hoisington’s Carl Hickel rushed for 211 yards with four touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a 28-21 win over the Hillsboro Trojans Friday night in MCAA play in Hillsboro.

Although Hillsboro drew first blood with a 56-yard pass from Jacob Fish to Daniel Jost in the first quarter, Hickel answered in the second with a 26-yard run.

The Trojans struck again with another Fish to Jost connection for an eight-yard touchdown reception.

Hickel answered once more before halftime with a six-yard run just before halftime.

Hillsboro’s Daniel Jost kept the game within reach with eight receptions for 108 yards and three touchdowns.

Both teams are 4-2. Hillsboro falls to 3-1 in MCAA Mid Division play. Hoisington is 2-1 in the division.

Hillsboro plays Friday at Southeast of Saline in Gypsum to open district play.

BURRTON — The Burrton Chargers fell to the Cunningham Bulldogs 76-42 Friday in both Heart of the Plains League play and Eight-Man II, District 5 play.

Cunningham improves to 6-0, 2-0 in district play. Burrton falls to 1-5, 0-2 in district play.

Cunningham led 50-8 at the half, but the Chargers scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to keep the game going.

Burrton’s Tyler Bruton had 130 yards rushing with a touchdown. Kelyn Pohlman passed for 102 yards and two scores.

Cunningham’s James Patton rushed for 173 yards on seven carries with three touchdowns. Grant Kerschen passed for 117 yards and three touchdowns.

Burrton plays Friday at Quivira Heights.
