Koehn 27th after first round of Amateur

HUTCHINSON — Blair Koehn of Newton is tied for 27th after the first round of play at the Kansas Women’s Amateur Golf Championships Tuesday at the Highlands Country Club.
Koehn shot a 42-45—87, 17 strokes off the lead.
Katy Nugent of Wichita leads after the first round at 70.

Rebels claim win over Lindsborg

The Newton Rebels hold a one-game lead in the Walter Johnson League North Division with a 7-2 win over the Lindsborg Knights Monday at Klein-Scott Field.
Sunday in Wichita, the Rebels lost two games against the Wichita Sluggers, losing 4-0 and 2-0 in Wichita.
Friday, Newton claimed a single win over the Hutchinson Monarchs 5-4. Thursday, Newton split with the Valley Center Diamonddawgs, winning the first game 3-1 and losing the nightcap 7-5.
Newton is 17-17, 16-14 in WJL play. Newton plays at 7 p.m. today at Salina, the second place team in the WJL North. Newton has four league games remaining.

Wingnuts get first win of second half

WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts claim its first win of the second half of the American Association season, stopping the St. Paul Saints 8-7 Tuesday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Wichita scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Wingnuts added a run in the fourth. The Saints scored two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh while Wichita managed just one run in the bottom of the sixth and another run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Saints added a run in the eighth, but newcomer Joe D’Alessandro retired the side, including two strikeouts, in the ninth for his first save for Wichita.
Gabe Medina, 7-2, went six innings for the win, allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Reed Dickert, 2-3, took the loss for St. Paul.
Josh Horn went three for five for Wichita with three runs scored. Stephen Pearson and Michael Sharp both went two for four for Wichita with an RBI. Greg Porter and Kelly Hunt each had two RBIs. Nick Blasi hit a solo home run.
Anthony Norman went two for five for St. Paul with an RBI. Jacob Butler hit a solo home run.
The two teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. today at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Hunter course available online

PRATT — The coursework for the Kansas Hunter’s Education Course, required for the hunter’s education certificate needed for a hunting license, is available online at www.hunterexam.com/usa/Kansas.
Attendance still is required at an instructor-led field day to gain a certificate.
Students may log on and log off at any time.
The course may be viewed free of charge, but there is a charge to complete the course.
