Newton High School senior Jared Fromm signed a letter of intent to play football at Baker University in Baldwin City this fall.

Fromm is a 6-foot, 250 pound offensive lineman. He also played on the defensive line for the Railers.

He is a first-team All-Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I selection at offensive line and an honorable mention Class 5A All-State selection. He was second-team All-AV-CTL I as a junior.

“For me, growing up, I always pictured myself at KU,” Fromm said. “I didn’t always know if I’d play college football. One of the appealing things for me was the proximity to KU. They have a winning program. Everything seemed to fit just perfectly.”

Fromm is expected to play guard or center at Baker.

Baker was 7-3 last season overall, 6-3 in Heart of America Conference play. The Wildcats won four straight to end the season, finishing 21st in the final NAIA poll.

“We are excited about this group of young men joining our program,” Baker coach Mike Grossner said. “We identified some areas of need and brought in 10 mid-year transfers to compete in those spots. We felt like offensive line depth was crucial, and we satisfied that area with some nice young offensive linemen. We feel like these 36 guys will blend in nicely with our 86 returning student-athletes to form an excellent squad for the 2012 season. These are great kids and we can’t wait to coach them.”
