Newton High School softball players Erin Boston and Jenna Rangel are playing for the Wichita Mustangs U16-A team that is competing in the USSSA Fast-Pitch 18 and under B World Series, which opened Monday at the Fun Valley Sports Complex in Hutchinson.
The Mustangs are 7-0.
In pool play, the Mustangs downed the Colorado Outlaws 6-0, the Kansas City Fury 6-5 and the Ruffnecks 12-0.
In bracket play, the Mustangs beat the Nebraska Swingers 1-0, the Eastern Iowa Barracudas 4-1, the PC Monarchs 3-1 and Trentonettes 8-0.
The team will compete in the ASA 16A nationals beginning Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
