Wingnuts streak ends at nine games

WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts had its nine-game winning streak snapped, falling to the Sioux City Explorers 6-1 Wednesday in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Tyler Meigs went three for four hitting with three RBIs to lead Sioux City, 20-24. Trevor Fox went 5 1-3 innings for the win, improving to 4-1. Fox allowed one run on four hits with four walks. David Trahan struck out five in 2 2-3 innings. Steve Andrade finished the game.
Stephen Pearson went two for four for Wichita, 31-14. Brad Davis took the loss, allowing four earned runs in seven innings with seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Davis falls to 4-3.
The win was Sioux City’s first over Wichita in nine games this season. The two teams end their series at 7:05 p.m. today in Wichita.
POTTER HONORED — Wichita Wingnut left fielder Greg Porter was named the AA player of the month for June. He was the first Wichita player to receive the award.
In 27 games last month, Porter went 50 for 104 (.481) with six home runs and 21 RBIs. He drew 22 walks. He had a 19-game hitting streak. He leads the league with a .391 batting average.

Wild’s Wooten takes IFL honors

PARK CITY — Wichita Wild quarterback Dixie Wooten was named the Indoor Football League offensive player of the week for his play in last week’s 73-33 win over the River City Rage.
Wooten came to Wichita after he was released by the Rage. Wooten had a team-record seven touchdown passes Saturday against River City, hitting 14 of 20 passes for 171 yards. He carried the ball four times for 28 yards.
Wichita clinched a playoff berth with the win.
Wichita ends the regular season at 7:05 p.m. today at Hartman Arena against the Alaska Wild.

Wizards to host fireworks show

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Wizards soccer team will be hosting “Celebration of America Night” following Saturday’s 8 p.m. game against the Houston Dynamo at the Community/America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
The team is billing the fireworks show as one of the biggest in the area.

Outdoors expo slated for August

PARK CITY — The Team X-TREME Outdoor Expo will be Aug. 28 through 30 at the Hartman Arena in Park City.
Events include Team BowMasters holding an indoor 3D pop-up archery tournament, fishing guides holding demonstrations at a fish tank, youth fishing instruction, outdoor seminars and boating safety seminars. If proper permits are acquired, Jackie Bibby will be doing snake-handling shows.
