South AA stars top North stars

ST. PAUL, Minn. —

The South All-Stars used three home runs to claim an 11-4 win over the North Tuesday night in the American Association All-Star Game in St. Paul.

Fort Worth outfielder Brian Fryer was named the MVP, going three for five hitting with a home run for the South, along with two doubles and four RBIs.

Ron Fenwick of Shreveport went two for three with two runs scored.

The South led 10-0 after five innings. Fort Worth pitchers Joel Kirsten, Pedro Flores and Dan Grybash combined to hold the North to one earned run in five innings. Kirsten claimed the win.

Walter Olmsted of El Paso and Brandon Sing of Pensacola each added a home run for the South.

Pat Mahomes of Sioux Falls took the loss for the North. Starter Charlie Ruud of St. Paul went two innings for the North without allowing a hit.

Wichita Wingnut infielders Kevin Hooper and Brenan Herrera each had two hits for the North squad.

Wichita returns to play at 7:05 p.m. today at St. Paul.
