Jared Langley, 11, of Newton was a double winner at the USA Wrestling ASISCS Kids Wrestling Freestyle and Greco-Roman National Championships July 2 through 5 at the McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah.

Langley competed in the Novice Division at 140 pounds. He won both the freestyle and Greco-Roman competitions. Langley qualified for nationals by winning both styles at the regional competition at Fort Hays State University.

In the national tournament, Langley downed Cody Luckey of Idaho 2-1 in the Greco-Roman finals. He beat Luckey 3-0 and 5-0 in the freestyle finals.

He is a state “triple crown” winner, claiming the state freestyle, Greco-Roman and folkstyle (high school- and college-style) titles.

It was his second national title in Greco-Roman and first in freestyle.

Langley has been wrestling for five years. He is a member of the Newton Wrestling Club.

He said he started wrestling after seeing a note from school about the club.
