PERU, Neb. — The Bethel College women’s basketball team won its second straight game, stopping Peru State 80-74 Saturday in overtime in Peru.
Bethel jumped to a 10-4 lead but fell behind 40-36 at the half. The Threshers trailed by 11 with 8:32 remaining in regulation. Down by seven in the final two minutes of play, Bethel made a 7-0 run capped by a Jessica Muckenthaler trey with 19 seconds remaining. Peru State turned the ball over with 13 seconds left, but Bethel repaid the favor with four seconds left. Peru State missed a 3-point attempt just before the buzzer.
Tied 73-73 with 2:37 left in regulation, Bethel made a 7-1 run to end overtime.
Hannah Blackburn led the Threshers with 18 points and nine rebounds. Rachael Bachman scored 12 points. Jordyn Blanson scored 11 points. Angela Woods scored 10 points. Holly Anthony had 11 rebounds.
Bethel struggled from the free-throw line, hitting 24 of 44 attempts. Peru State went 18 of 30 from the line and 27 of 71 from the field.
Lanori Washington led Peru State, 0-2, with 13 points. Reanna Dean scored 12 points. Courtney Ward scored 11 points with 12 rebounds. Monique McDuffie scored 10 points.
Bethel improves to 2-1 and plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday in McPherson against Central Christian College.
