Hillsboro golfers win home regional tourn

The Hillsboro Trojan golf team is off to the Class 3A state tournament, winning the regional tournament Monday at the Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course.

Hillsboro won the tournament by 13 strokes over Beloit, 347-360. The top two teams qualify for the state tournament. Republic County was third at 370, followed by Ellinwood at 378, Salina Sacred Heart at 414 and Southeast of Saline at 437.

Justin Kent and Daniel Kunantaev tied for the top individual spot with a 76. Kent won the playoff for top medalist honors. Matt Pestinger of Beloit was third at 84.

Rounding out Hillsboro’s scores were Daniel Dick at 97, Gavin Serene at 98, Jake Kenney at 102 and Jared King at 113.

The state tournament is Monday at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
