The Bethel College men’s basketball team got a taste of what big time college basketball is all about, falling to NCAA Division I Missouri-Kansas City 75-39 Friday in an exhibition at the UMKC Student Recreation Center.
It was Bethel’s first game against an NCAA Division I team in years, the last being a one-point loss to the University of Denver in the Bethel Classic when Denver was in its transition year.
Bethel trailed 40-16 at the half.
The Threshers were hampered by 25 turnovers and were outrebounded 47-33. Up 4-3 early, Bethel gave up a 17-5 run and was never able to recover.
Jay Couisnard led the Kangaroos with 16 points. Spencer Johnson scored 14 points with 14 rebounds. Bakari Lewis scored 12 points.
Sophomore guard John Watson scored 11 points with six rebounds for the Threshers.
Bethel opens the regular season at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Thresher Gym against Hastings College.
