From Hesston College
HESSTON —  Looking to improve on last year’s 17-14 campaign, second-year Hesston College head women's basketball coach Dan Harrison will rely on a talented sophomore class that played a huge role in last season's successes.
Nine sophomores return, bringing with them the experience, confidence and work ethic Harrison hopes will net another winning season. Included in the returners are seven players who started at least two games last season.
“We have a variety of talents,” Harrison said. “To be successful, we’ll need to utilize our team strengths of depth and athleticism.”
Returning guard Kari Heusinkveld (Goshen, Ind.), who took home all-region honors last year, is healthy after off-season knee surgery and leads a deep group in the Hesston backcourt. Danielle Stauffer, a  5’11” freshman forward from Burlington, Iowa, should make an immediate impact in the frontcourt.
“Our newcomers will make us a better team, no doubt,” Harrison said. “I like our competitiveness across the board and I’m anxious to see what we’re capable of. We’re going to play an exciting brand of hard-nosed, unselfish basketball.”
Highlights on this year’s schedule include games versus Kansas City (Kan.) Community College and Southwestern Iowa Community College (Creston, Iowa) during the November 13-14 Brown Mackie College Classic in Salina. In December, the Larks travel to El Reno, Okla., to take on Redlands Community College (Dec. 5) and host  Hutchinson Community College (Dec. 12).
