Tabor spikers

sweep Spires

The Tabor College volleyball team won the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference title outright with a three-game win over the University of Saint Mary Thursday in Hillsboro.

Tabor won the match 25-13, 25-21, 25-18.

Tina Frick led the Bluejays with 12 kills, followed by Gina Hullet with 110. Mandi Phillips had 32 assists. Ashley Cohlmia had 14 digs.

Tabor ends the regular season 19-10, 16-2 in KCAC play. They play at 7 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of a play-in match.

Hesston man

to be inducted

WINFIELD — Wylie Smith of Hesston will be inducted into the Southwestern College Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday during the Moundbuilers’ football game against Tabor at Sonner Stadium in Winfield.

Smith is a 1951 Southwestern grad. He played football, basketball, baseball and track at Southwestern, earning 14 letters. He was named to the All-Central Intercollegiate Conference team in basketball as a senior.

He went on to play semi-pro baseball with the Boeing Bombers in Wichita.

He will be introduced by Swede Osbourn of Newton, also a member of the SC Athletic Hall of Fame.

Also being inducted is Centre High School graduate Denise Allen Moberly. A 1993 SC grad, Moberly was All-KCAC in the high jump and triple jump for four years. She was a three-time all-district selection in the high jump, winning the high jump title in 1991. She is a two-time NAIA All-American in the high jump. She holds the indoor high jump record at 5-foot-6.

Moberly currently lives in Macclenny, Fla.
