Moundridge spikers advance to semifinals

HAYS — The Moundridge High School volleyball team outlasted a pair of teams at the Class 2A state volleyball tournament Friday at Bush-Gross Coliseum in Hays for a 3-0 pool play finish and a spot in the semifinals.

Moundridge opened with a three-game win over Uniontown 24-26, 27-25, 25-12. The Wildcats followed with a three-game win over second-seeded Lebo 26-24, 21-25, 25-15.

In the final match of the day, Moundridge downed Oskaloosa 25-23, 25-20.

Moundridge, 34-9, advances to the semifinals at 2 p.m. today against 34-10 Valley Heights. The winner meets the winner between 39-1 Overlin and 37-5 Lebo in the finals. The third-place match also follows the semifinals.

Hillsboro spikers finish 1-2 at state

SALINA — The Hillsboro High School volleyball team finished the Class 3A state tournament 1-2 in pool play Friday at the Bicentennial Center in Salina.

Hillsboro opened the day with a three-game loss to Phillipsburg 23-25, 25-20, 25-22. The Trojans then lost to top-seeded Wichita Collegiate 25-17, 25-18.

Already eliminated from Saturday’s play, Hillsboro closed out the tournament with a three-game win over Eureka 20-25, 25-14, 25-18.

Hillsboro ends the season 30-10.
