Capahas down El Dorado at NBC tourney

The Cape Girardeau (Mo.) Plaza Tire Capahas overcame a four-run deficit to down the El Dorado Broncos Monday morning in the National Baseball Congress World Series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Zack Borowiak went three for four hitting for the Capahas, driving in two runs. Jerry Hodges went two for four hitting with two runs scored, two RBIs and a home run. Daniel Schuh added a pair of RBIs.

Ryan Hudgins went two for five for El Dorado, hitting a home run and driving in three runs.

Andrew Maupin went eight innings for the Capahas to get the win, striking out seven. Brad LaBruyere got the save.

Josh Willmott took the loss for El Dorado, 1-1 in tournament play.

The Nevada (Mo.) Griffons scored 10 runs total in the fifth and sixth innings to hand the Casa Grande (Ariz.) Cotton Kings a 14-1 loss in six innings on the run rule.

Nevada had three home runs — Trevor Geist, Will Feil and Daniel Dellasaga. Feil drove in four runs. Dan Ward drove in three runs. Mark Wyatt went three for three with two runs scored and two RBIs. Taylor House went three for three with two runs scored and an RBI.

Mike Devito went two for three for Casa Grande with a home run.

Matt Speake went six innings for Nevada to get the win, allowing seven hits with eight strikeouts. Thomas Taylor took the loss for Casa Grande.

The Vienna (Va.) Senators scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie and claim a 9-3 win over the Wichita Sluggers.

Kevin Watkins hit a solo home run in the ninth, while Tyler Townsend hit a three-run shot. Townsend finished three for five hitting. Watkins went two for two with two RBIs. Eric Watkins also drove in two runs.

Tim Rotola went two for four for the Sluggers, 1-1 in the tournament, driving in two runs.

Kevin Hald went five innings in relief, allowing no runs and two hits, for the win. Hald struck out five.

Matt Robertson went eight innings for the Sluggers, taking the loss.

Scott Sobczak allowed one earned run on two hits through six innings to pace the San Diego Waves to a 5-2 win over the Maxim (Calif.) Yankees.

Brett Williams and Guido Knutson finished the game without allowing a hit. Knutson was credited with the save.

Brett Hartmon went two for four for San Diego with a run scored and an RBI. Cody Burgener went two for three with a run scored and an RBI. Buck Afenir hit a solo home run.

Gunnison, 2-0, tied the game with an unearned run in the top of the ninth.

Jimmy Turk went two for three with an RBI, driving in the tying run for Gunnison.

Tanner Stevenson led Park City, going two for three with two RBIs.

Mario Marivi threw three innings of scoreless relief for the win, striking out five.

Morgan Combs took the loss for the Rangers.
