HILLSBORO — The Tabor College volleyball team moved a step closer to a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference title with a four-game win over rival Bethel Wednesday night in Hillsboro.
Tabor won the match 26-24, 25-16, 18-25, 25-18.
Tabor improves to 17-8, 14-1 in the KCAC. With three matches remaining, Tabor holds a two-match lead and the head-to-head tiebreaker over Friends.
Bethel falls to 13-14, 10-5 in KCAC play. The Threshers have stayed even with the Bluejays most of the season, but dropped their second straight match and four of their last five.
Stats were not reported at press time.
Tabor plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany, followed by a non-conference match at 1 p.m. against Oklahoma Baptist.
Bethel hosts Southwestern at 2 p.m. Saturday at Thresher Gym.

clinch berth
LEAVENWORTH — The Bethel College women’s soccer team clinched a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament berth with a 4-3 overtime win over the University of Saint Mary.
The Threshers improve to 6-8-2 overall, 4-3-1 in KCAC play. Saint Mary falls to 6-8-2, 3-4-1 in KCAC play. Bethel moves into fifth place with the top six advancing to post-season play.
Scoring details were not reported at press time.
Bethel ends the regular season at 6 p.m. Saturday at Tabor.

fall to Spires
LEAVENWORTH — The Bethel College men’s soccer team fell to the University of Saint Mary 3-0 Wednesday in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play in Leavenworth,
The loss was Bethel’s third straight and matches the worst loss of the season for the Threshers in conference play.
Bethel falls to 3-9-4, 1-6-1 in KCAC play. Saint Mary improves to 6-10, 3-5 in KCAC play. Bethel ends the regular season at 8 p.m. Saturday at Tabor.
Railer freshmen
win season finale
ARKANSAS CITY — The Newton High School freshman football team, joined by several junior varsity players, ended the season with a 44-19 win over Arkansas City Monday.
The Railers finish the season 8-0, the second straight unbeaten season for a NHS freshman squad.
Newton averaged 35 points a game while giving up just seven points a game.
Hesston spikers
fall to Allen County
IOLA — The Hesston College volleyball team fell to Allen County Community College in three games Wednesday in Iola.
Hesston lost the match 25-15, 25-15, 25-15.
“Mal (Hertzler) and Danielle (Minder) had another strong night for us offensively,” Hesston coach Kristen Rhodes said. “They have been playing really well the last couple weeks. We played the first half of each game very closely but lost momentum and couldn’t finish it.”
Hesston falls to 1-26, 0-11 in Region VI play. Hesston plays the Bethel junior varsity at noon Saturday in North Newton.
