Newton Nitros compete at league championships

Swimming team claims 49 medals from 23 swimmers

HAYSVILLE —

Members of the Newton Nitros Swim Club competed in the Great Plains League Championships Friday and Saturday in Haysville.

The meet drew more than 500 competitors from nine clubs, including Haysville, Wellington, Winfield, Twin Rivers, Derby, Valley Center and El Dorado.

The Nitros had 23 swimmers entered, claiming 49 medals.

The team is coached by Clinton Bailey, who is assisted by Dana Tolle.

Girls 8 and younger:

100-m. Freestyle — 9. Jasmine Powell.

50-m. Backstroke — 5. Jasmine Powell, 10. Erica Beebe.
