Blackburn reaches
1,000-point mark

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Bethel College senior forward Hannah Blackburn scored 12 points in Monday’s 76-46 loss to Lyon College to break the 1,000-point barrier for her college career.
Blackburn, a 5-11 forward from Kingman, now has 1,004 career points.
The game was played at Shiloh Christian High School in Springdale since both teams had players from Springdale.
“We tried chipping away at the 44-25 halftime lead, and actually had it down to 14 early in the second half, but their post players were just too physical for us inside as they extended it out to the final score,” Bethel coach Mark Fox said. “I told the girls after the game, that it’s not an excuse, but rather a reality — they have been practicing since September; we just completed our second week of practice. Three extra weeks of preparation was readily apparent.
“Lyon had a sense of purpose with their possessions, on both ends of the floor, than we had. I also told them that we will not be the same team as we are now with three more weeks of practice. At least we’d better not be. At the same time, I was disappointed in our lack of effort and passion at the start of the game. Whether you have two days, two weeks or two months to prepare, you can always play hard and with a sense of urgency. We won’t be markedly better, yet, by this weekend in the functioning category, but we darn well better play more physically and energetically.”
Bethel hosts Oklahoma Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Friday.
