Wingnuts win no-hitter

Wichita Wingnuts pitchers Junior Guerra, Matthew Nevarez and Josh Dew combined for a no-hitter as Wichita downed the Shreveport-Bossier Captains 1-0 Wednesday in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Guerra went 7 1-3 innings for the win, allowing seven walks and nine strikeouts. Nevarez finished the eighth inning. Dew struck out two in the ninth inning for the save. Guerra improves to 4-2. Dew posted his 12th save of the season.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Jorge Delgado doubled and came home on a Josh Workman single.

Richard Salazar, 4-4, took the loss for the Captains, going seven innings and allowing a run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Mark Haynes pitched the eighth inning.

Wichita, 31-27, moves to within a game of Gary SouthShore in the AA Central Division. The Captains fall to 28-30.

Wichita takes today off and resumes play Friday at South Division leader Grand Prairie.
