Sedgwick trailed 19-14 at the half.

Madison Ontjes led Nickerson with 10 points.

Grace Thompson scored 11 points for Sedgwick.

Sedgwick plays Monday at Douglass.

SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick High School boys’ basketball team opened the season with a 53-39 win over Nickerson Friday in Sedgwick.

Scoring details were not reported.

Sedgwick plays Monday at Douglass in the Douglass Classic.

Moundridge 64, Pretty Prairie 44

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge High School boys’ basketball team opened the season with a 64-44 win over Pretty Prairie in Moundridge.

The Wildcats led 39-22 at the half.

“We got out and ran the floor well tonight,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “Dillon Vogts gives us a solid point guard that can score as well as distribute. He has invested a lot in his game since last season and it is paying dividends. Noah Eichelberger proved tonight that he is becoming a more complete player than just a shooter. He led us on the boards and put in a solid defensive performance. All the other starters contributed and Dan Kaufman came off the bench and is a high energy guy that had a solid game. Next week will be a tough three games for us so we will enjoy the win tonight but tomorrow morning we will think nothing but the next game.”

Eichelberger led Moundridge with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Vogts scored 16 points. Jerod Kaufman scored 11.

Tyler Nisley led Pretty Prairie with 12 points.

Moundridge hosts Hillsboro at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Moundridge Classic.

HESSTON — Reece Nebel scored 28 points and Lantonio Unruh added 21 to lead the Hesston Swathers to a 71-51 win over Salina Sacred Heart Friday in Hesston.

Sacred Heart is ranked first in Class 2A, while Hesston is third in Class 3A in the pre-season KBCA poll.

Down 13-11 after the first quarter, Hesston led 34-30 at the half. Hesston put things away with a 25-9 third quarter.

Caleb Jordan scored 20 points to lead Sacred Heart.

The Swathers play Tuesday at Garden Plain in the Rose Hill Classic.

Goessel trailed 12-0 after the first quarter and 27—4 at the half.

Payton Froese scored 19 points for Inman. Mason Thiessen added 11.

Jordan Griffin led Goessel with 14 points.

Goessel hosts Canton-Galva at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Goessel Classic.
