GOLDEN, Colo. — A run late in the first half provided the cushion needed for the Colorado School of Mines to stop the Bethel College men’s basketball team 86-66 Saturday at the CSM Classic in Golden.

Colorado School of Mines is an NCAA Division II team that improves to 6-0. The game counts as an exhibition for the Threshers.

CSM hit 30 of 55 from the field, 14 of 34 from 3-point range. Bethel was 24 of 55, seven of 19 from 3-point range.

Bethel never led in the first 10 minutes of play, but trailed by no more than four points.

Down 17-16, Bethel gave up a 23-8 run. Bethel trailed by 15 at the half, 48-33.

Bethel gave up an 8-1 run in the first five minutes of the second half. Bethel drew no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

Ben Sonnefeld and Mason Baker each scored 17 points for the Orediggers. Ben Clare added 15 points.

Joe Rushing led Bethel with 14 points, followed by Dakota Foster with 12.

Bethel returns to KCAC play at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Tabor. The Bluejays are 2-5, 1-2 in KCAC play, coming off an 87-70 loss at York.
