HESSTON — The Hesston College women’s soccer team ended the season with a 2-0 loss to Northwest Kansas Tech Tuesday in NJCAA Region VI play at the HC Soccer Field.

Alicia Benete Montufu scored for Northwest Tech in the 25th minute. Adrijane Felix Cesar scored in the 50th minute. Hesston was outshot 12-2.

Vivi Rodriguez had 10 saves in goal for the Larks.

Northwest Tech is 12-4, 10-4 in Region VI play, and advances to the Region VI playoffs Saturday at Butler.

Hesston ends the season 9-10, 4-10 in Region VI. play.

HESSTON — The Hesston College men’s soccer team ended the season with a 1-0 loss to Northwest Kansas Tech 1-0 Tuesday in Hesston.

Scoring details were not reported.

Northwest Tech improves to 8-7-1, 6-6 in Region VI play. Hesston falls to 7-11-1, 2-10 in Region VI play.

Bethel runners

compete at Classic

WINFIELD — The Bethel College women’s cross country team finished 14th Saturday at the Mid-States Classic meet in Winfield.

The sole runner for the Bethel men was Julio Martinez, who finished 22nd out of 161 runners in 26:43.8 (8,000 meters).

"Julio ran a really strong race," said BC coach Jeff Hoskisson. "We felt that this would be a good meet for him to be able to run fast. His training the past two weeks has been really good and he ran maybe his best race ever."

For the Bethel women, Jennifer Meysing finished 52nd out of 153 runners in 20:50.8 (5,000 meters). Kiley Varney was 71st in 21:41.6, followed by Jordan Hill in 91st in 22:45.1, SkyLa O’Neal in 132nd in 25:53.4 and Eva Dwyer in 134th in 26Z:06.6.

"The ladies all ran fantastic," Hoskisson said. "We talked about racing the race before things got started. They all did just that and ran super."

Bethel competes at the KCAC Championships Nov. 4 at the Rolling Acres Golf Course outside of McPherson.

Thunder player

signs with Ottawa

WICHITA — Former Wichita Thunder forward Jack Rodewald becomes the Thunder player to work his way from the ECHL to the NHL.

Rodewald signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators.

Rodewald played in six games with Wichita last season, scoring five goals with three assists. He was promoted to the American Hockey League’s Binghamton (now Belleville) Senators, scoring 18 goals with nine assists in 66 games. He started this season with Belleville, scoring three goals with an assist in five games.

Wichita entered into its first NHL affiliation last season with the Ottawa Senators. Wichita changed its affiliation to the Edmonton Oilers this season.

A fourth-year pro, Rodewald scored 44 goals with 44 assists in 155 games.

PLATZER HONORED — Wichita Thunder forward Kyle Platzer was named the ECHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday.

In two games, Platzer has scored three goals with two assists in a pair of wins over Rapid City (3-1 and 5-2). One of his goals was an unassisted, short-handed goal.

Wichita is 4-0-0, its best start since joining the ECHL. Wichita plays at 7:05 p.m. today at Tulsa.

THUNDER WEBCASTS — A pair of Wichita Thunder games will be streamed live on the ECHL.TV Showcase games, available on the ECHL Facebook page. The games to be streamed are the Kansas City Mavericks at Wichita Dec. 22 and Wichita at Colorado April 6.

Hernandez fights

for IBA title

PARK CITY — 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist and Wichita native Nico Hernandez will face Hungarian Jozsef “Little Red” Ajtai Dec. 2 at Hartman Arena for the vacant International Boxing Association Flyweight Championship.

Hernandez is 3-0 with two knockouts since turning professional. His last fight was a six-round unanimous decision over Kendrick "Uprising" Latchman Sept. 23 at Hartman Arena.

Ajtai is 19-9 with 12 knockouts in 28 professional fights. His last fight was a loss by technical knockout to British flyweight Gavin McDonnell in Manchester, England. Ajtai won the Hungary Light Flyweight title in 2015. He has fought for the WBF World Super Flyweight title, the WBO International Flyweight title, the WBA Continental Flyweight title and the German International Flyweight title, but lost in all four of those matches.

The undercard bouts will be announced later.
