Hesston 59, SE Saline 42

HESSTON — The Hesston Swathers clinched a spot in the Class 3A playoffs with a 59-42 win over Southeast of Saline Friday in district play in Hesston.

Hesston led 27-22 at the half, but gave up a touchdown early in the third quarter. Hesston was able to regain and extend its lead as the second half progressed.

Cameron Cox led the Swathers with 22 carries for 309 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Cox also hit five of seven passes for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Parker Roth added 19 carries for 209 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Grady Toews had two catches for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Hesston finished the game with 555 yards rushing and 649 yards total offense.

For Southeast of Saline, 3-5, Hunter White had 31 carries for 195 yards rushing and three touchdowns. White also hit seven of 15 passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns.

Hesston is 5-3, 2-0 in district play. Hesston ends the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday at Marion.

Marion clinched a playoff berth with a 44-12 win over Hillsboro.

The Marion-Hesston winner wins the district title and opens the playoffs at home. The loser must go on the road in the playoffs.

Halstead 36, H.Trinity 6

The Halstead High School football team beat Hutchinson Trinity 36-6 Friday in district play.

Dalton Kraus hit six of 11 passes for 83 yards and three touchdowns. Scott Grider had 28 carries for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Mendez had three catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns. Kaden Kraus also had a touchdown catch of 33 yards. Bryant Odendahl caught two passes for two-point conversions. Grider ran in a two-point conversion.

For Trinity, Kaleb Hammeke had 10 carries for 95 yards rushing and hit five of 13 passes for 34 yards and four interceptions. Hammeke rushed for a touchdown.

Aric Propst, Kaden Kraus, Dalton Kraus and Grider each picked off a pass for Halstead’s defense. Propst had 10 total tackles and forced a fumble. Drew Blaylock recovered a fumble.

Halstead is 4-4, 2-0 in district play. Trinity is 5-3, 1-1 in district play.

Halstead ends district play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Marion.

Class 2-1A

Medicine Lg. 15, Moundridge 6

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge High School football team was knocked off the playoff bubble after a 15-6 loss to Medicine Lodge Friday in Class 2-1A district play in Moundridge.

The Wildcats fall to 2-6, 2-2 in district play. Medicine Lodge is 3-5, 2-1 in district play.

Medicine Lodge scored first on a 21-yard Garrett Randels run. The Wildcats tied the game on a nine-yard pass from Hunter Emersin to Noah Eichelberger.

Tied 6-6, Drew Honas hit a 19-yard field goal with three seconds left in the half to put Medicine Lodge on top.

Garrett Burden hit a five-yard pass to Josh Bowman in the third quarter and Medicine Lodge held the Wildcats off the rest of the way.

Neither team made an extra-point attempt in the game.

Burden finished the game hitting 11 of 16 passes for 117 yards. Randels had 34 carries for 139 yards.

For Moundridge, Emerson hit six of nine passes for 61 yards. Corbin Unruh had five carries for 70 yards and hit an 18-yard pass. Jerod Kaufman had 18 carries for 60 yards. Eichelberger had five catches for 39 yards.

Moundridge ends the season at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Prue, Okla.

PEABODY — The Peabody-Burns football team fell to Central of Burden 60-14 Friday in Eight-Man I district play.

The game was called at halftime on the 45-point rule.

Central was led by Trey Hamilton, who rushed for 266 yards with six touchdowns and passed for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Chance Cook caught both touchdown passes. Hamilton also scored on an interception return.

For Peabody-Burns, Jess Philpott had eight carries for 66 yards and a touchdown. Philpott also scored on a 79-yard kickoff return.

Central of Burden is 4-4, 4-0 in district play. Peabody-Burns drops to 2-6, 1-3 in district play. The Warriors play Thursday at Cedar Vale-Dexter in Dexter.
