Halstead (1-3) at Hillsboro (1-3)
Halstead fell at home to Larned 35-26 last week, while Hillsboro lost to Smoky Valley 50-14 for the Trojans’ third-straight loss.
Halstead’s Dalton Kraus has hit 34 of 49 passes for 572 yards with eight touchdowns. He also has 36 carries for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Aric Propst has 26 carries for 195 yards and four touchdowns. Kaden Kraus has 27 carries for 174 yards. Noah Mendez has nine catches for 257 yards and four touchdowns.
For Hillsboro, Kaden Kleiner has hit 49 of 98 passes for 679 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Kleiner also leads the team in rushing with 55 carries for 242 yards and four touchdowns. Jacob Funk has 23 catches for 327 yards and four touchdowns, followed by Darian Ratzlaff with 19 catches for 237 yards.
Hesston (2-2) at Smoky Valley (3-1)
Hesston fell to Nickerson 47-21 last week, while Smoky Valley topped Hillsboro 50-14. Both teams have just one loss in the league and still have a shot for at least a share of the CKL title against leaders Pratt and Hoisington.
Hesston’s Cameron Cox leads the CKL in passing yards, hitting 59 of 102 passes for 781 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. Parker Roth is second in rushing with 72 carries for 675 yards and eight touchdowns. Reese Nebel leads in receiving yarsd with 34 catches for 505 yards and five touchdowns.
For Smoky Valley, Brett Heitschmidt has hit 15 of 26 passes for 239 yards with two touchdowns. Kyle Anderson has 84 carries for 517 yards and four touchdowns. Tim Lambert has four catches for 123 yards and a score.
Heart of America
Class 2-1A, District 5
Moundridge (0-4) at Remington (0-4)
This one looks ugly on paper, but in a similar position last year, it determined a playoff spot after Moundridge won 34-30.
Moundridge lost to Sterling 42-7 last week, while Remington lost to unbeaten Marion 40-3.
Cheney (4-0) at Sedgwick (1-3)
Sedgwick gets an off week in both HOAL and district play, taking on 4-0 Cheney of the Central Plains League.
Sedgwick fell to unbeaten Hutchinson Trinity 32-19 last week. The Cardinals’ opponents to date are 19-1.
Cheney downed Douglass 62-12 last week to remain unbeaten in CPL play. This is Cheney’s first non-league game this season.
Cheney is led by Micah Grover, who has hit 46 of 65 passes for 805 yards with 12 touchdowns. Grover has 263 yards rushing with nine touchdowns. Riley Petz has 59 carries for 530 yards and six touchdowns. Trent Scheer has 20 catches for 316 yards and four touchdowns.
Wheat State League
Eight-Man I, District 5
Little River (3-1) at Goessel (0-4)
Little River downed Solomon 50-36, while Goessel fell to Peabody-Burns 44-38. Little River is in sole possession of first place in the Wheat State League and can clinch a tie for the title with a win. The Redskins can win the title outright with a win Friday and a win over Canton-Galva in week seven or a Centre loss to Rural Vista in week nine.
Little River’s Levi Swenson has hit 15 of 28 passes for 231 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Swenson also has 43 carries for 321 yards and five touchdowns. Peyton Harvey has 31 carries for 300 yards and five touchdowns. Hunter Thomas has 37 carries for 216 yards and 10 touchdowns. Graham Stephens has three catches for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Eight-Man I, District 2
Flinthills (0-4) at Peabody-Burns (1-3)
Peabody-Burns picked up its first win of the season last week, stopping Goessel 44-38. Flinthills fell to Caldwell 58-22 in South Central Border League play.
The Warriors are seeking their fifth state playoff berth in the last six years.
Eight-Man II, District 2
Caldwell (4-0) at Burrton (1-3)
Burrton fell to Pretty Prairie 67-18 last week, while Caldwell downed Flinthills 58-22.
Caldwell’s Corbin Rice has hit 18 of 43 passes for 366 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. Rice also has 43 carries for 260 yards and seven touchdowns. Dakota Volavka has 44 carries for 350 yards and four touchdowns. Jalen Risley has 11 catches for 265 yards with four touchdowns.
