RIM ROCK FARM — The Newton; boys’ cross country team placed 14th out of 46 teams scoring Saturday in the Crimson Division at the Rim Rock Classic at the University of Kansas’ Rim Rock Farm cross country course.

The Crimson Division is the intermediate division of the multi-state meet. Great Bend won the division title at 187 points, followed by Nixa, Mo., at 209, Keaney, Mo., at 247, Platte County, Mo., at 265 and Wichita Northwest at 284. Newton scored 478 points.

The Railers were led by Garrett Mick, who placed 18th out of 330 runners with a time of 17:15.60.

Eric Brown was 27th at 17:27.90, followed by Erik Jantz in 41st at 17:43.30, Jonah Hodge at 19:00.20, Antonio Negrete in 234th at 19:34.50, Luke Schmidt in 242nd at 19:39.00 and Eli Blaufuss in 286th in 20:23.30.

The Railer girls finished ninth out of 31 teams scoring in the Blue Division, the third division of the girls’ competition.

Great Bend won the division at 127, followed by Hiawatha at 130, Basehor-Linwood at 156, Logan-Rogersville, Mo., at 172 and Rock Creek at 199. Newton had a score of 332.

The Newton girls were led by Alaina Stucky, who finished eighth out of 270 runners in 21:16.90.

Lylia Fernandez finished 59th in 23:11.40, followed by Jaden Anton in 80th in 23:41.00, Megan Bartel in 90th in 23:51.90, Elaina Bergquist in 180th in 26:51.20 and Hailey Million in 228th in 30:29.10.

Newton hosts the 14-team Newton Invitational at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Centennial Park. Teams scheduled to compete include Andover, Andover Central, Buhler, Dodge City, Goddard Eisenhower, El Dorado, Goddard, Liberal, McPherson, Valley Center, Wamego, Wichita East and Wichita North.
