SALINA — The Newton High School volleyball team carried momentum from Saturday’s win at the Maize Invitational to claim a pair of wins Tuesday in Salina in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play.
Newton topped Maize 25-22 and Salina South 25-9, 25-13.
“I thought it was going to be tough coming off Saturday to maintain a high level of energy,” Newton coach Jamie Dibbens said. “We didn't get as many runs as I would like, but we still played at a high level. We were happy coming out with two more wins since they will be important for league standings.”
Against Maize, Taylor Antonowich had five kills, followed by DesiRay Kernal and Caroline Berger with four each. Antonowich had eight digs, followed by Kernal, Kyndal Bacon and Maggie Remsberg with seven each.
Against South, Asha Regier and Kernal each had six kills. Antonowich had nine digs, followed by Bacon and Remsberg with eight each. Bacon set 23 assists.
Newton is 16-4, 4-0 in AV-CTL I play. Newton hosts the Newton Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
