WINNIPEG — The Wichita Wingnuts will have to go to a fifth game for the second straight year in the American Association Championship Series after a 4-3 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes in 17 innings Monday night at Shaw Park in Winnipeg.

The best-of-five series is tied two games each. The fifth and deciding game is at 7:05 p.m. today at Shaw Park.

Casey Turgeon led off the bottom of the 17th inning with a single and score on a David Rohm double to end the game, which lasted one minute shy of six hours.

Wichita was one out away from ending claiming the title but Turgeon hit an RBI single for Winnipeg with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

Andrew Sohn hit a two-run home run for Winnipeg in the bottom of the second inning. T.J. Mittlestaedt answered back for Wichita with a two-run single in the third inning.

Richard Prigatano hit an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Winnipeg’s Charlie Rosario went 5 1-3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Mitchell Lambson went 1 2-3 innings, striking out one. Victor Capellan walked one and struck out one in the eighth. Evan Rutckyj faced one batter in the ninth and struck him out. Ryan Chafee struck out one of the two batters he faced in the ninth.

Mikey O’Brien went six innings, allowing five hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Zack Dodson finished the game for the win, allowing two hits with three strikeouts in two innings.

Wichita starter Eddie Medina lasted six innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Austin Boyle pitched a scoreless seventh inning, walking one and strikeout out one. Mike Devine struck out one in the eighth. Ryan Kussmaul went two innings, allowing a run on three hits with a hit batter and two strikeouts. Josh Goossen-Brown went two innings, allowing a hit and three strikeouts. James Campbell went two innings, allowing a hit with a strikeout. Seth Harvey went two innings, striking out three. Tyler Kane lasted just two batters in the bottom of the 17th to take the loss.

Turgeon and Rohm each finished the game three for seven hitting. Leo Vargas went three for six for Wichita. Prigatano went three for seven. Matt Chavez went three for eight.
