Katie Torrens scored in the 99th minute to hand the Bethel College women’s soccer team a 3-2 win over Southwestern Christian Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play at Joe W. Goering Field.

Down 2-1 in the second half, Araeleigha Heysquierdo-Marcy tied the game in the 80th minute.

Emily Anderson put SCU ahead in the sixth minute on a goal from Paula Pebacini. Bethel tied the game on a goal by Torrens with an assist from Jadin Kaltenbach.

Kaitlyn Carroll put SCU back in front on a goal from Indy Sullivan.

Bethel was outshot 16-11, 10-6 on goal. Maddie McDaniel had eight saves in goal for Bethel. Ashlynn Haylett had three saves for SCU.

Southwestern Christian falls to 2-5, while Bethel improves to 2-3.

Bethel travels to Muskogee, Okla., at 3 p.m. Saturday to take on another Sooner Athletic Conference team, 1-4 Bacone College.

The Bethel College men’s soccer team fell to unbeaten Mid-America Christian University 3-1 Wednesday at Joe W. Goering Field.

Dominik Tajak scored two goals for MACU. Kacey Owensby added a goal. Caleb Roldan added an assist.

The Evangels took a 2-0 lead early into the second half. Bethel came back with a goal from Richard Ebel in the 65th minute, but MACU answered less than five minutes later on Tajak’s second goal.

Bethel was outshot 16-5, 9-2 on goal. Bethel had no shots in the first half.

Jakob O’Meara-Gill had no saves in the first half for MACU. Liam Ward had a save in the second half. Kobi Russom had six saves in goal for the Threshers.

The Evangels improve to 5-0. Bethel drops to 3-2 and faces 2-2 Bacone at 5 p.m. Saturday in Muskogee, Okla.

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — The Bethel College volleyball team fell to Oklahoma Wesleyan in three sets Wednesday in KCAC play in Bartlesville.

Bethel dropped the match 25-19, 25-15, 25-18.

Kenadee Valdez led OWU with 12 kills, followed by Chloe Davis with 10. Sydney Garis set 33 assists. Andrea Novakovic had 18 digs. Kinzee Goodno downed three blocks.

For Bethel, Abby Kurtzer and Katie Neira each had six kills. Kelsie Anderson set nine assists. Taylor Buessing had six digs. Anderson and Neira each downed three blocks.

Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 6-5, 2-1 in KCAC play. Bethel falls to 2-6, 0-3 in KCAC play. Bethel plays at 2 p.m. Saturday at York College.

Wingnuts open

series with win

WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts opened the American Association Championship Series with a 12-7 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes Wednesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

T.J. Mittlestaedt led the Wingnuts, going two for four with four RBIs. Brent Clevlen went three for five with two RBIs. Richard Prigatano also drove in two runs. Christian Stringer went three for five with an RBI. Matt Chavez went two for four with an RBI.

Wichita scored in the bottom of the first inning on a Clevlen RBI single. In the second inning, Stringer drove in a run with a double, followed by a Clevlen RBI double. Mittelstaedt hit an RBI triple. Two runs scored on errors.

Winnipeg came back with three unearned runs in the top of the third inning. In the fourth inning, Wes Darville hit an RBI triple and came home on a Mason Katz sacrifice fly.

Wichita struck again in the fifth inning on a Chavez RBI triple and a two-run Prigatano home run.

David Bergin and Mason Katz each hit solo home runs for the Goldeyes in the sixth inning.

Mittlestaedt capped off the scoring with a three-run home run in the eighth inning.

Danny Gutierrez threw five innings for the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Josh Goossen-Brown, Austin Boyle, Mike Devine and Ryan Kussmaul each threw an inning to close out the game. Devine struck out two.

Winnipeg starter Charle Rosario lasted two innings for the loss. The Goldeyes used six other pitchers in the game.

Reggie Ambercrombie and Katz each drove in two runs for Winnipeg. Katz finished two for two hitting. Bergin went two for four. Abercrombie and David Rohm each went two for five.

Game two of the best-of-five series is 7:05 p.m. today in Wichita.
