About Saint Mary: The Spires fell to 22 Dakota Wesleyan University on September 2 in the KCAC/GPAC Classic, dropping the Spires to 1-1. Junior quarterback Drew Cortez went 24 for 53 for 374 yards and a touchdown. Senior wide receiver Isai Fernandez caught four passes for 35 yards and freshman running back Ben Harvey led the Spires with six rushes for 28 yards. Defensively, sophomore defensive back Joshua Green had 10 tackles and one for a loss.

About Kansas Wesleyan: The Coyotes took down Concordia 28-13 on September 2 in the KCAC/GPAC Challenge. Senior, Kelly Cordova, led the way on offense as he went 18 for 37 for 235 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also had eight rushes for 64 yards. Senior running back, Nate Ocran, had 14 rushing attempts for 91 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, senior linebacker Garrett Updegraft had 10 total tackles (eight solo), three tackle for loss and one forced fumble.

History: Kansas Wesleyan leads the all-time series, 13-4, as Saint Mary beat Kansas Wesleyan 38-24 in 2016.

Southwestern (0-2) at (20) Sterling (1-1)

About Southwestern: The Moundbuilders lost their second game to the Drake University Bulldogs, 55-14 on September 9. Southwestern was led by junior quarterback Christian Gordon in both the running and passing game. He was nine for 25 for 108 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Christian also ran the ball 12 times for 13 yards and was sacked three times. Junior transfer quarterback Austin Early played his first snap and went one for three for eight yards and one interception. On the defensive side, freshman linebacker Grant Torgerson recorded eight tackles (four solo, four assist) and one tackle for loss for four yards.

About Sterling: The 20 Warriors held off Mayville State in North Dakota, 44-40 on September 9. The passing attack was led by sophomore quarterback, Eric Butler, who went eight for 13 for 76 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also ran the ball 15 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns. The running attack was led by sophomore Aaron Chisolm, who had 29 rushing attempts for 133 yards. Sterling defensively was led by senior defensive back Kenya Edner, who had 10 solo tackles and one forced fumble.

History: The Warriors are 10-2 in the last 11 meetings with the Builders, including a 77-22 win in 2016 and a 52-0 victory in 2015.

Ottawa (0-2) at Friends (0-2)

About Ottawa: The Braves lost to Concordia, 24-6 on September 9 moving Ottawa to an 0-2 record. The Braves passing attack was led by sophomore quarterback Connor Byers, who went 19 for 38 for 147 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions and was sacked twice. The rushing attack was led by freshman James Reeder, who ran 20 times for 91 yards. Defensively, Ottawa was led by junior defensive back, Marcus Fenderson, who had 10 total tackles (all solo) and three tackles for loss for five yards.

About Friends: The Falcons lost to Doane in the KCAC/GPAC Challenge, 28-13 on September 9. Friends was led in their passing game by freshman quarterback, Kevin Folsom, who went 13 for 27 for 104 yards and two interceptions. The rushing attack was led by freshman running back, Noah Diaz, who ran the ball 22 times for 106 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, the Falcons were led by senior defensive lineman Kelechi Chukwuka, who had six assisted tackles and one solo.

History: The Braves are 34-28-1 all time against Friends and 7-6 under current coach, Kent Kessinger. The Falcons won last year against the Braves, 37-32.

McPherson (1-0) at Bethany (1-0)

About McPherson: The Bulldogs beat Texas Wesleyan in the KCAC/GPAC Challenge, 43-14 on September 2. Junior quarterback, Ed Crouch, led the passing attack going 12 for 24 for 201 yards, two touchdowns. Crouch also led the rushing attack, running 11 times for 75 yards while senior running back, Tyrone Campbell, ran the ball 11 times for 26 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, three players tied with six total tackles as the team high with senior defensive lineman, Isaiah Hill, being one of them. Isaiah also had two and a half tackles (2.5) for loss for nine and a half yards (9.5) and one sack for three yards.

About Bethany: The Swedes beat Briar Cliff in the KCAC/GPAC Challenge, 36-23 on September 2. Junior quarterback, Isaiah Salazarr, led Bethany's passing attack going 14 for 23 for 301 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Junior running back, Jafar Thomas, led the rushing attack as he ran the ball 22 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, junior linebacker, Jau'marl Clark, had 11 total tackles (seven solo) with one sack and two and a half (2.5) tackles for loss for five yards.

History: Bethany have gone 5-8 against McPherson dating back to 2004 with Bethany's last win coming in 2013.
