Andover (1-0) at Kapaun-Mt. Carmel (1-0)

Andover opened the season with a 26-14 win at Salina Central, while Kapaun-Mt. Carmel downed Wichita Southeast 57-6.

Kapaun is led by running back Nick Channel with nine carries for 139 yards and three touchdowns. The Crusader defense allowed just 96 yards last week.

Andover was led by Eli Fahnestock, who hit 17 of 28 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Fahnestock also rushed for a touchdown. Chase Gumeringer had eight carries for 59 yards. Luke Windish had three catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns. David Kemp hit field goals of 24 and 27 yards and hit a pair of extra-point kicks.

Derby (1-0) at Goddard (1-0)

This will likely be the game much of the state will have its eyes on this week. Derby is the defending Class 6A champion and on a 25-game winning streak. Goddard is the defending Class 5a runner-up.

Derby opened the season with a 48-14 win over Goddard Eisenhower last week. Goddard opened the season with a 42-20 win on the road at Olathe Northwest.

Andover’s Blake Sullivan hit nine of 14 passes last week for 168 yards and three touchdowns. Sullivan also rushed the ball 13 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Darius Russell added 88 yards rushing with a score. Zack True caught four passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Amaro had 12 total tackles on defense.

Derby’s Brady Koosser had 18 carries for 126 yards and four touchdowns. Hunter Igo hit 10 of 11 passes for 154 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Brady Walls had four catches for 69 yards.

Valley Center (1-0) at Campus (1-0)

Valley Center edged Salina South 12-7 last week, while Campus topped Arkansas City 48-20.

Valley Center used two quarterbacks last week. Parker Schrater hit two of six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Wyatt Lange hit five of seven passes for 45 yards. Larry Wilson had a catch for 65 yards and a score. Valley Center was held to 18 yards rushing in the game.

For Campus, Federico Harvey hit 17 of 17 passes for 303 yards and six touchdowns. He added 48 yards rushing with a touchdown. Cameron Harvey had three catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns, adding 11 carries for 55 yards rushing. Tyler Kahmann had two catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. Quinton Hicks had four catches for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Salina Central (0-1) at Arkansas City (0-1)

Salina Central fell to Andover last week, while Arkansas City fell to Campus 48-20.

For Central, Jack Kavanagh hit seven of 21 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown. Taylon Peters had 24 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown. Peters also caught a 57-yard touchdown pass. Kedric Liggins had three catches for 60 yards. Migc Aiyanyor had 16 total tackles on defense.

For Arkansas City, Cevin Clark hit seven of 17 passes for 126 yards with a touchdown and five interceptions. Tyree Watkins had 21 carries for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Blake Watkins had 13 total tackles.

Goddard Eisenhower (0-1) at Maize (1–0)

Goddard Eisenhower lost to Derby 48-14 last week, while Maize edged Newton 22-19.

Maize was led by Caleb Grill, who hit 13 of 25 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Dalyn Johnson had 45 yards rushing and 54 yards receiving.

Eisenhower’s Ty Trudo had 21 rushes for 169 yards. Seth Golden rushed for two touchdowns. Eisenhower threw just one pass for no yardage.
