Bethel drops

two matches

STERLING — The Bethel College volleyball team dropped a pair of four-set matches Saturday to close out play at the Sterling Classic.

Bethel lost to Presentation 23-25, 25-17, 25-11, 25-11.

Katie Neira had 17 kills, followed by Abby Kurtzer with 14. Kelsie Anderson set 27 assists. Taylor Buessing, Kurtzer and Rachel Buessing each had 11 digs.

For Presentation, Jordyn Dekker had 15 kills, followed by Haylee Biel with 13 and Olivia Stet with 10. M Goetz set 29 assists. Mallori Rabenberg served four aces, followed by Sara Parker with three. Joely Roe had 25 digs. Biel downed six blocks.

Bethel lost to Sterling 25-11, 18-25, 27-25, 25-20.

Bethel’s stats were not reported.

Chelsea Riffel had 21 kills for Sterling, followed by Makenzie Cork with 17. Mikaela Wells had 49 assists. Alexandra Reid had 20 digs, followed by Riffel with 15, Kristen Calderwood with 14 and Lexi Naegele with 12. Reid served three aces.

Bethel is 2-4 and hosts Friends at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

BC men fall

to Dallas Baptist

DALLAS — Ethan Martinez scored a goal in the 46th minute to lift Dallas Baptist to a 1-0 win over the Bethel College men’s soccer team Saturday in Dallas.

Dallas Baptist, 1-1, is an NCAA Division II team.

Bethel was outshot by the Patriots 14-10, 9-4 on goal.

Kobi Russom had eight saves in goal for the Threshers. Tyler Hoffman had four saves in goal for DBU.

Bethel falls to 2-1 and hosts Manhattan Christian at 7:30 p.m. today.

to Wichita North

WICHITA — The Newton High School boys’ soccer team fell to Wichita North 3-0 Monday morning at the Titan Classic at Wichita South.

North improves to 2-0. while Newton falls to 1-2.

Scoring details were not reported.

Newton plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Wichita South west field against either Maize or Dodge City.

HC women

stop Neosho

CHANUTE – The Hesston College women’s soccer team downed Neosho County Community College 3-0 Saturday in NJCAA Region VI play in Chanute.

Dakoda Lee, Paige Baucom and Connor Atkinson each scored a goal for Hesston. Kenzie Johnson added an assist.

Miranda Dolsman and Vivi Rodriguez each spent a half in goal to split the clean sheet. Dolsman had two saves. Rodriguez had seven saves.

Autumn Wilson had eight saves in goal for Neosho.

Hesston is 3-0 and faces Hutchinson Community College at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Hutchinson. HCC has received votes in the NJCAA rankings.

CHANUTE — The Hesston College men’s soccer team fell to Neosho County Community College 4-0 Saturday in Chanute.

Neosho led 1-0 at the half. Alexandre Neves scored two goals for Neosho. Rafael Biff and Marcos Lucero each added a goal. Josue Villalta had two assists. Eduardo Carvalho and Victor Cositorto each added an assist.

Mpussa Sy had one save in goal for Neosho.

Hesston falls to 3-1 and hosts the Central College junior varsity at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

HC spikers

claim win

STERLING — The Hesston College volleyball team improves to 3-3 after a four-set win over the Sterling College junior varsity Friday in Sterling.

Hsston won 25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 26-24.

Sierrah Long had 15 kills for Hesston, followed by Haley Unruh with nine. Faith Hallmark set 37 assists. Kylie Brenneman, Hannah Yoder and Kylee Kasselman each served two aces. Hallmark had 21 digs, followed by Brenneman with 16, Autumn Lungwitz with 15, Long with 13 and Kasselman with 11. Unruh and Yoder each downed three blocks.

Hesston hosts 10th ranked (NJCAA Division II) Cowley at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Wingnuts win

season finale

WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak, stopping the Salina Stockade 4-1 Monday afternoon in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Wichita pitcher Tyler Kane (12-1) went five innings for the win, allowing a run on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Josh Goossen-Brown went two innings, allowing a hit, a walk and a strikeout. Mike Devine allowed a hit in the eighth inning. Ryan Kussmaul threw a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save of the season.

Josh Hodges (3-6) went the distance for Salina, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Wichita scored three runs in the third inning when Jacob Morris hit a two-run triple and came home on a Christian Stringer sacrifice fly.

Salina scored its final run in the top of the fifth on a Javion Randle RBI single. Brennen Salgado hit an RBI single for Wichita in the sixth inning.

Morris finished two for four hitting for Wichita. Randle went two for three for Salina.

Wichita ends the season 61-38, while Salina likely ends its existence in the American Association 18-82, losing its last eight games.

Wichita opens the AA playoff semifinals at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday at Gary SouthShore in a best-of-five series. The first home game of the series for Wichita is 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
