After a week of practice, the Bethel College women’s soccer team took the field against Allen Community College at Goering Field for a pre-season friendly.

Allen scored a pair of goals late to claim a 3-1 win over the Threshers.

“That team already played two games and this was our first,” Bethel coach Alex Hagen said. “We made some mistakes today. We made a couple of mistakes that led to goals. Going forward, we’re working on it. It’s a work in progress. I think we played well. We dominated in the first 10 minutes of the game. That team was lot more fit. It’s something we’ll get better at as the season goes on.”

Hagen is in his first season as Thresher head coach, getting named to the post just a few weeks ago.

Allen was a playoff team in National Junior College Athletic Association Region VI play last year.

The Threshers came out strong. Bethel had a goal called back for being offside in the third minute. After a shot for Allen, the Threshers finally scored in the 17th minute when Alayna Wallace followed on a rebounded shot.

Allen scored on an Abbey Hand breakaway in the 38th minute. Leigh-Anne Bartlett and Hailey Jones each scored goals.

Allen held a 5-3 advantage in shots in the first half.

Williams stopped a one-versus-goal chance at point-blank range to start the second half. A Bethel shot went off both posts and rolled out.

Allen took advantage of a pair of defensive lapses in the final 20 minutes to break the tie.

Bethel was outshot 10-3 for the game. Williams finished with six saves.

Bethel takes on sister school Hesston College in a pre-season friendly at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Bethel opens the regular season at 3 p.m. Saturday against Saint Gregory’s in Shawnee, Okla.
