KC T-Bones

WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts used an 11-run fourth inning to get by the Kansas City T-Bones 11-5 Thursday night in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita.

The Wingnuts won four of five games in the homestand against the T-Bones. After losing the first game of a doubleheader Monday, the Wingnuts have won four straight.

The T-Bones struck first win an RBI single for Kevin Keyes in the top of the first inning and a Paul Hendrix sacrifice fly in the top of the second.

The Wingnuts sent 16 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on eight hits, an error and three walks.

Two walks and a single loaded the bases to open the inning. Zac Fisher drove in two runs on a single. A third run scored on an error. Brennen Salgado then singled to score Fisher. After a single and a fielder’s choice for the first out, Christian Stringer singled to score a run. Martin Medina hit a two-run single.

T.J. Mittelstaedt drove in a run with a single. Richard Prigatano hit a two-run single. Fisher ended the scoring with an RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, T-Bone Chantz Mack drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Marcus Lemon hit a solo home run.

Jordan Edgerton finished the Kansas City scoring in the top of the eighth with an RBI double in the eighth.

Tim Brown (3-3) went seven innings for the Wingnuts for the win, allowing four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Josh Goossen-Brown allowing a run on a hit with a walk and a strikeout in the eighth inning. Seth Harvey gave up a single in an otherwise scoreless ninth.

Billy Waltrip (1-6) went 3 1-3 innings for Kansas City, allowing 11 runs on eight hits with four walks and a strikeout. Jackson Lowery finished the fourth inning. Dylan Poter pitched four scoreless innings, giving up a hit and three walks.

Fisher finished four for five hitting for Wichit. Prigatano went two for five.

Dexter Kjerstad and Edgerton each went two for four hitting for the T-Bones. Keyes and Lemon each went two for five.

Kansas City falls to 47-36, 4 1/2 games behind Lincoln in the AA Central and 1/2 game ahead of Gary in the wild card race. Wichita is 50-32, 13 games ahead of Cleburne in the AA South. Wichita is 1 1/2 games behind Winnipeg and one game behind Lincoln for the top record in the league.

Wichita opens a three-game homestand with the Texas AirHogs at 7:05 p.m. today at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
