WICHITA — The two top teams in the American Association evened their three-game series at one game each Tuesday after Lincoln rallied for a 6-5 win over the Wichita Wingnuts at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Matty Johnson hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to break a 5-5 tie.
Lincoln scored in the top of the first on a Curt Smith sacrifice fly. Brandon Jacobs drove in a run with a double in the second.
Wichita scored in the bottom of the second on a Richard Prigatano RBI single. Wichita took the lead in the bottom of the third when Tyler Sullivan drove in a run with a single, T.J. Mittelstaedt hit a two-run triple and came home on a Matt Chavez sacrifice fly.
Lincoln came back with three runs in the top of the fifth. Cesar Valera, Nathaniel Maggio and Randolph Oduber each had an RBI single.
Wichita loaded the bases on two hits and walk with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but a 6-4-3 double play ended the game.
Lincoln used five pitchers. J.R. Bunda (8-0) pitched two scorless innings, striking out three for the win. Starter Dimitri Kourtis went four innings, allowing five runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Casey Crosby, Cameron McVey and Michael Wagner each pitched a scoreless inning. Wagner survived the ninth inning for the save, his 16th of the season.
Seth Harvey (1-4) took the loss for Wichita with the home run being the sole hit allowed, striking out two. Starter Garrett Gould went 4 1-3 innings, allowing four hits, five runs, three walks and three strikeouts. Josh Goossen-Brown, Mike Devine and James Campbell each held Lincoln scoreless.
Oduber went two for two hitting for Lincoln. Johnson and Jacobs each went two for four.
Mittelstaedt went two for three hitting for Wichita. Christian Stringer went two for four.
Lincoln improves to 47-26, while Wichita drops to 45-29. The two teams play again at 7:05 p.m. today.
