Hesston hosts

golf tourney

HESSTON — The Hesston High School golf team is sponsoring a fund-raising golf tournament at 8 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Hesston Golf Course.

The tournament is a four-player scramble. Entries will be taken both as a team or as individuals. The entry fee includes greens fee, cart, range balls and a meal following the tournament.

Wingnuts

down Lincoln

WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts returned to the friendly confines of Lawrence-Dumont Stadium after a 2 1/2-week road trip with a 3-2 win over the Lincoln SaltDogs in American Association play.

Wichita starter Tyler Kane (8-1) went seven innings for the win, allowing two runs and five hits. James Campbell pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Austin Boyle walked one and struck out one in the ninth for his first save of the season.

Lincoln starter Bennett Parry (1-2) allowed three runs on 10 hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 5 1-3 innings, taking the loss. Fabio Martinez struck out three in 1 2-3 innings. Casey Crosby allowed three hits and struck out one in the eighth inning.

Wichita scored in the bottom of the first inning on a Brent Clevlen RBI single.

With two outs in the top of the third inning, Cesar Valera hit a two-run triple for Lincoln.

Clevlen hit an RBI single for Wichita in the fifth to tie the game. Leo Vargas hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

Wichita loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, but a strikeout and a ground out ended the threat.

Tyler Sullivan went three for five hitting for Wichita. Clevlen, Martin Medina and Mike Chavez all went two for four.

Randolph Oduber went two for three hitting for Lincoln.

Wichita is 45-28, while Lincoln is 46-26. The two teams are battling for the top record overall in the AA. Lincoln leads the Kansas City T-Bones by five games in the AA Central. Wichita leads Cleburne by 14 games in the AA South.

Wichita and Lincoln play again at 7:05 p.m. today.
