The Newton Rebels saved an otherwise dismal stretch of games with a win.

Saturday, Newton lost to the Cheney Diamond Dwags 10-5. Sunday, Newton lost to the Wichita Sluggers 3-0 and 13-0. Monday, Newton fell to the Salina Shock 8-3 in the first game, but won the second game 5-4.

In the second game against Salina, four walks and three wild pitched led to a pair of Newton runs. An error with two outs in the top of the second led to a Salina run. Newton came back with two more runs in the bottom of the second.

An error in the top of the third led to three Salina runs. Jaylund Johnson put Newton back in the lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the third.

Both teams struggled to move runners in the later innings. Newton’s Dean Smyser ended the game with an unassisted double play.

Noah Parson claimed the win in relief of Renner Smith. Dean Adkins picked up the save. Cody Berry took the loss for Salina.

Landon Ernway went two for three hitting for Salina.

In the first game against Salina, the first two Newton batters in the first inning were hit by pitches, but one was picked off and one was left stranded at third. Andres Santana had an RBI single for Salina in the top of the second inning.

Newton broke the shutout streak at xx innings when Rob Lane hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game.

Four hits and two errors led to five unearned runs for Salina in the top of the fourth. Stefan Aguilar had an RBI single for Newton in the bottom of the fourth. Each team had a run in the sixth. Salina added a run in the seventh.

Newton stranded a pair of baserunners with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Again Wichita made the Rebels pay with four singles for two runs in the top of the fifth. Thies and Brandon Whitechurch each drove in a run.

Three hits, a pair of walks, a hit batter, two wild pitches and a pair of errors led to four Wichita runs in the third inning.

Wichita put things away with five runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
