The Salina Hawks avenged a close loss to the Newton Post 2 Junior Knights in American Legion Class A baseball Tuesday, winning a pair of games by run-rule.

Newton beat Salina 11-10 Sunday to conclude a five-team, round-robin tournament.

Salina won Tuesday 18-7 in six innings on the eight-run rule and the second game 12-1 in four innings on the 10-run rule.

Salina took a 3-1 lead through three innings of the first game. Neither team had an earned run and combined for seven errors in the span. Cason Long hit a two-run double in the top of the fourth for the first earned runs of the game. The Hawks added five more runs in the inning, two on a Neal Tabor single, two on bases-loaded walks and one on a bases-loaded hit batter.

Newton poked out five hits in the bottom of the fourth with an error, a hit batter and a walk for seven runs. Ben Schmidt had a two-run, pinch-hit single.

An error in the top of the fifth led to two more Salina runs. Salina put things away with six runs in the sixth inning. Jonas Baughman had a two-run triple in the inning.

Neal Tabor and Long each had three hits for Salina. Cade Hannert drove in three runs. Baughman and Hunter Whittecar each had two hits with two RBIs.

Cade Thompson pitched five innings for the win. Josh Weiser finished the game.

Newton starter Camden Fenwick took the loss. Josh Edson had two hits.

Salina scored four runs on two hits with two walks, an error and a hit batter in the first inning of the second game. All four runs were unearned. Newton scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Salina added four more runs in the third.

A pair of errors led to four Salina runs in the fourth.

Long pitched a complete-game win for Salina, striking out seven. Josh Duong went three for three hitting with two RBIs. Sheldon Perez went two for two with an RBI.

Zach Kennell took the loss for Newton, striking out two. Konar Jaso also pitched.

Newton is 2-10. Newton and Salina meet again at 7 p.m. today in Salina in a single, seven-inning game.
