HUTCHINSON — The Newton Rebels shut out the Hutchinson Monarchs in all but two innings, but that was all the Monarchs needed in a 4-1 win Friday night in Sunflower League play at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson.
Hutchinson scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth. Newton scored its sole run in the top of the ninth.
Chase Feucht went 7 2-3 innings for Hutchinson for the win, striking out four. Tyler Murphy struck out four for Newton. Ron Lain had three strikeouts for the Rebels.
Kyle Cullen and Trevor Turner each had two hits for Hutchinson. Stephen Aquilar had two hits for Newton. Kyle Atkins drove in the sole run for the Rebels.
Hutchinson improves to 9-1, leading the league. Newton drops to 3-6. Newton plays the River City Lumberjacks at 7 p.m. today at the West Side Athletic Field in Wichita and the the Kansas Cougars at 6 p.m. Sunday in a doubleheader at the Maize High School field.
