Newton golfer

signs with Ottawa

Newton High School golfer Tanner Pauls signed a letter of intent to play for Ottawa University beginning this fall.

Pauls is a four-year letterwinner and a third-year state qualifier. He will play in this year’s Class 5A state tournament in Salina.

Ottawa was third at the KCAC Championship Tournament and finished fifth in the conference overall.

Regier named

KVA All-Star

TOPEKA — Newton High School senior Emily Regier has been named to the Blue Team of the Kansas Volleyball Association All-Star Match at 6:30 p.m. June 3 at Lee Arena on the Washburn University campus in Topeka.

Regier helped lead the Railers to an Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I title and a Class 5A state tournament berth.

She signed with Pittsburg State to play this fall.

Wingnuts opener


WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts season-opening game against the Salina Stockade was postponed because of the weather.

The game will be made up at 5 p.m. Saturday as part of a doubleheader. Both games will be seven innings.

Tickets from Thursday’s game can be exchanged at the Lawrence-Dumont box office for any future home game, subject to availability and exclusions.

The poster giveaway scheduled for Thursday will be today.

Wichita and Salina will play at 7:05 p.m. today at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
